Whether you write fiction, memoir, journalism, advertising copy or a blog, this course covers the foundations of quality writing.
Get Your Story Straight: Whose story is this, why do we care, what’s the progression, what is the prize and what is the price? Lay solid foundations for your writing. Identify premise, conflict, change, values and specificity. Who is going to read this and why?
Voice and character: Developing a distinctive authorial voice. Manage exposition, Point of View, dialogue, individual style. Discover your personal strengths. Practical exercises on style and how to make the reader take sides.
On the Page: Down to the nitty gritty of sentence level. Using power and paste words, rooting out filler, dynamizing your prose, common problems, presenting your work and skills of self-editing. Shortcuts and how to show not tell.
The Woolf exists primarily to nurture and connect the writing and publishing community in Zürich, and to build a cultural context in which literature and the arts can evolve and thrive. www.thewoolf.orgthewoolf.org
