The Divine Order
It’s a time when men control whether their wives can work or not, there is no women’s suffrage, girls can be jailed for being “loose women” and a woman’s task is to look after her family and home. Welcome to the early 20th century – anywhere in the western world.
No, it’s 1971 in Switzerland and this is women’s reality. Join us to explore one woman’s transformation from “dutiful wife” in a typical village to campaigner for her human rights. Enjoy the journey as she influences the women around her and endures the backlash from her family, friends and conservatives amongst men and some women alike. Ultimately women in Switzerland were given the right to vote but it wasn’t easy…….
In Swiss German with English subtitles.
Jeanette and Karen run the Monday at the Movies group for the American Women's Club and love their movies. The group has extended to include Opera On the Big Screen at the Corso, Summer Movies on the Lake, Ladies Night and occasionally a home movie.
