September Excursion - Water Magic
We start off the official Excursion Season this year with a walking tour of some of Zurich’s most beautiful fountains. Zurich is one of the cities in Europe with the most fountains; 1,030 to be exact, but don’t worry, we won’t be seeing all of them today. From the Sodbrunnen, dating back to the late middle ages to the modern artworks of the 20th century, you can find water dispensers of all kinds here. We visit fountains to the left and right Limmat and hear about their significance and history with a special guided tour. After our fountain tour, we will be ready for a nice lunch in Old Town, and then perhaps climb up to the windows of the famous Fraumuenster Church, noted for its distinctive stained-glass windows, created by Marc Chagall in 1970, if there is interest, or you can end your day right after lunch.

Come with the AWCZ as we step back in time and tour Ballenberg – Switzerland as it used to be. More than 100 century-old buildings from all over Switzerland, 250 farmyard animals, traditional, old-time gardens and fields, demonstrations of local crafts and many special events create a vivid impression of rural life in days gone by. There is wood-carving, basket weaving, spinning, weaving, bobbin-lace making and forging, cheese making and bread baking, to name but a few. We revive ancient folk customs, from old-time costumes and dance to linen processing and our traditional autumn market. After a nice chartered bus ride, we will have a guided tour of Ballenberg, and then have a Swiss lunch (Optional) in one of the nicer restaurants there. November Excursion - Hergiswil Glasi Factory
Come, join the fun with the Excursion Team! We are taking you this time to Hergiswil, a small town located at the foot of Mount Pilatus and Lake Lucerne. The main attraction of the town is its renowned Glasi Factory, where glass is blown without lead since 1817. The factory employs about 100 artisans. With the help of these professionals, you will able to blow your own masterpiece, and then, we will take you through the glass Labyrinth, the newest addition to the Glasi Factory, which has just opened this year. You will be able to purchase some glass pieces directly from the factory, and visit the Glasi Museum after the guided visit. This museum documents the history of the glassworks with photographs and many examples of its glassware. We will start our one hour journey by train from Zurich HB. Lunch at the highly recommended Adler Restaurant is included, and is a short walking distance from the factory. The current plan is to be back in Zurich around 7 PM on Wednesday, November 17, 2010.
