AWCZ Works for You

Income from your membership dues help support our clubhouse rent and operations, our many activities and events, publication and mailing of our bi-monthly members magazine, the Round Robin, and the website.  The AWCZ also receives income from advertising in the Round Robin and on the website, room rentals, and profits from fundraising events such as the Christmas Market and Workshop Week. Revenues collected from Library fees and book sales support the purchase of books for our Library. Between Board members, Activity Leaders and Chairs, and numerous other dedicated AWCZ volunteers, our members spend hundreds of hours each week to keep our club working. Our clubhouse is run by members, for members.

The AWCZ Community

Beginning in 1931, the AWCZ dedicated itself to providing opportunities for friendship and personal development.  This tradition remains strong today.  We offer a wide variety of ever changing activities and events to suit our evolving membership and provide opportunities to grow and connect as a community.  We strive to be a network of support and fellowship that embraces the international climate within Zurich and Switzerland as a whole. AWCZ Gives Back

As an established non-profit organization, AWCZ has a strong history of local and international philanthropy, community service, and outreach.  We are a founding member of the Federation of American Women’s Clubs Overseas (FAWCO), an international network of organizations that holds Special Consultative Status with the United Nations as an accredited Non-Governmental Organization (NGO).  AWCZ and FAWCO support the United Nations through its Global Issues Task Forces and Target Program. Our members make a difference! Click here to learn more.

Locally, our very own Philanthropy and Social Engagement (PhASE) team spearheads the AWCZ’s support of local organizations through our Club Sponsored Charity with hands-on involvement and fundraising.

Member to Member Care Team

The Member to Member Care Team provides—whenever possible and as often as possible-—short-term support to AWCZ members who require special assistance. For example, a member may be recovering from surgery and need help with grocery shopping, getting to a doctor’s appointment, or driving children to their after-school activities. Know a member in need? Please let us know so we may reach out.

Welcome Team

welcomeThe Welcome Team is here to help new members successfully adjust to life in Switzerland. Arriving in a new country can be overwhelming, especially when the primary language may not be your own. We want you to feel at home at the AWCZ and in your new host country as soon as possible.

Our Neighborhood Meet-Ups is our way of reaching out to new members. This is a great way to meet members who live in your area and who can be a rich source of help and orientation. Once you are a registered member, you will be contacted by our Welcome Chair and/or your neighborhood hostess and receive an invitation to the next neighborhood meet up. It might be held at a local café, in a park, at a member’s home, or in a local restaurant. The sky is the limit! The main idea is to encourage conversation and friendships. We want to make Zurich feel like home.

If you have not been contacted by a neighborhood hostess, contact our Welcome Chair. Likewise, if you would like to assist the Welcome Team, contact us. Thus far, we have received the generous support of our members in Zurich center, Thalwil, Ruschlikon, Feldmeilen, Meilen, Herrliberg, Kusnacht, Horgen, and Oberrieden. If your area is missing and would like to help, please let us know.

Welcome Apéros is yet another way we reach out to our new members. To this end, we will organize an evening get together at a local Zurich social club every year. Watch for the announcements!

Member to Member Care Team

There is no place like home…

One of the goals of the AWCZ is to make Zurich feel more like home to its members.

Member2MemberBirdsHeart 01

The Member to Member Care Team (MMCT) helps achieve this by creating a member support network. Our goal is to provide, whenever possible, short term support with complete discretion, to an AWCZ member who requires special assistance because of an unforeseen circumstance. This is how we can help: when a member is recovering from an illness or surgery, a Care Rep in the neighborhood can assist with getting to a doctor’s visit, food shopping, meal preparation, a hospital visit. We are not certified care givers and therefore cannot provide long term or professional assistance. Nonetheless, in keeping with one of our Club’s missions, we want to show that we care about our members.

Would you like to be a part of this project? You can help in two ways. First, let us know if you hear of a member who might need special assistance. Second, consider becoming a Care Rep. This is a wonderful opportunity to get to know AWCZ members living in your area and to offer invaluable help to the AWCZ community. Volunteers do not commit to a regular schedule but are part of a team willing to be called upon as needed in your area.
