Melanie Thomson has been involved in the education sector in Spain, the UK and Switzerland since 1991. After receiving her TESOL certificate to teach English as a Second Language, she obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Primary Education at Sheffield Hallam University, UK. She grew up in a bilingual home in Switzerland and the UK, and has taught from pre-nursery to adults, gaining valuable experience in bilingual teaching environments. In Spain from 1990 to 2006, she served as the director of a British summer school for five years, taught professional development courses for teachers, and spent several years teaching in the Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1. She also ran musical initiation classes for Kindergarten children, and established and ran a music playgroup and an international playgroup. She has been in Switzerland since 2006, working at a bilingual school in Zürich until 2020 as a Kindergarten teacher, Head of Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten, and Deputy Head of School. After a two-year break, since 2022 she has been working for the City of Zürich Department of Education as a school ambassador. Melanie Thomson is married to her Spanish husband, and they have a daughter who experienced the Swiss educational system from the age of 4 – 18.
